Lake George 2008 pt. 2 - "Washers"

In Lake George this year we had the first of what will likely be many team tournaments of "Washers" (aka Polish horseshoes). Competition was fierce and the game was addicting. If you lost a best of 3 you waited impatiently for your chance at redemption, all the while studying your opponents for any sign of weakness. Okay, maybe it wasn't that serious for the spectator but it was fun to watch too.

Basically a two foot square box with a pvc tube in the middle and silver dollar size metal washers. We decided that since it was vacation, why stand an play? We set the pits up 10 feet apart and sat comfortably, drink and/or food in hand and satellite radio in the background.

A pitch into the box was 1 point, in the tube 3 and if you were able to get one to balance on the edge we gave that 2. Just like in horseshoes, if one landed next to yours it canceled it out. Games were to 11 and you had to win two out of three and win by 2 points. If this game ever makes it to the Summer Olympics you may just see a contingent from Buffalo NY trying to make the cut.
